According to a study carried out by africon GmbH and Mecs for Ucima<\/strong>, out of 54 African countries analyzed, six priority markets<\/strong> were identified: South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria<\/strong>, followed by Algeria, Morocco and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/strong>.<\/p>\nIn 2024, these countries recorded strong demand for packaging machinery, supported by expanding industrial systems and a significant role within regional value chains. Africa is confirming itself as a high-potential area for Made in Italy packaging<\/strong>. According to a study carried out by africon GmbH and Mecs for Ucima<\/strong>, out of 54 African countries analyzed, six priority markets<\/strong> were identified: South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria<\/strong>, followed by Algeria, Morocco and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In 2024, these countries recorded strong demand for packaging machinery, supported by expanding industrial systems and a significant role within regional value chains. The main drivers of demand are the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In 2025, Africa counts more than 400 active pharmaceutical manufacturers<\/strong>, mainly concentrated in Egypt, South Africa, Algeria and Nigeria, which together account for over 75% of the continent\u2019s production capacity. The food & beverage sector<\/strong> is even broader, with over 30,000 companies<\/strong>, mostly SMEs, and a shared trend toward increasing automation and the adoption of sustainable packaging solutions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div> Between 2020 and 2024<\/strong>, Italy emerged as Africa\u2019s leading supplier of packaging machinery<\/strong>, accounting for 28% of total imports<\/strong>, ahead of Germany (23%) and China (15%). Italian machines are particularly valued in filling, packaging and sealing technologies<\/strong>, thanks to their high quality, reliability and production efficiency.<\/p>\n The report also highlights growing interest in sustainable packaging<\/strong>, driven by regulations and bans on single-use plastics introduced in several African countries, with Rwanda and Kenya among the most advanced.
